Super proud of the The Baltimore Banner for winning an IRE award for our Key Bridge collapse coverage. Judges called it "a colossal effort." At the time, we didn't even have a live blog, but we did have great journalists who know this community and what the bridge meant to it.

Congratulations to the The Baltimore Banner’s amazing team, an incredible accomplishment (particularly for a news organization that has only been around for a couple of years)!

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be here today, three years in, winning a Pulitzer. My heart is full today. I am so proud of Alissa Zhu Jessica Gallagher Nick Thieme, the newsroom and everyone at this very special organization. thebaltimorebanner.com/community/loca…

Less than 3 years into its existence, The Baltimore Banner wins a Pulitzer for exposing official negligence toward the city's huge opioid overdose crisis, which was claiming ~1,000 lives per year, disproportionately older Black men. Bravo to Alissa Zhu, Jessica Gallagher et al.

.The Howard Center for Investigative Journalism Director Kathy Best said she wanted to help #merrillmade students produce Pulitzer-level journalism. Mission accomplished. ✅ Hear from Kathy Best and HC Data Editor Sean Mussenden about what it means for “Lethal Restraint” to be named a #Pulitzer finalist.

WE WON A PULITZER! A big first for The Baltimore Banner & The New York Times Local Investigations Fellowship. Thank you to so many, especially those who trusted us with their stories, however painful or risky it may have been for them to share, because they knew it could make a difference.
