Junior doctor starting salaries around the world: Australia: £60,000 Canada: £46,000 USA: £41,900 France: £43,700 UK: £29,384 Now tell me that the UK doesn’t undervalue its doctors?!

To everyone pearl-clutching at the idea of doctors asking for +35% pay: the government are massively expanding the Physician Associate workforce. They train for 2 years and start on £43.7k. A doctor trains for 5yrs and starts on £32.4k. The difference? *drum roll* 35%

This is deeply worrying language, that has historically been used to blame migrants for failings in society and to divide people and communities. It's a smokescreen designed to cover up the government’s own failure to tackle the housing emergency. #SocialHousingNotScapegoating

My perspective on AAs; a 🧵 I was an ANP before medical school and am now a specialty doctor in anaesthetics. I work with 2 qualified AAs who are excellent, I am often asked for my opinion given my background, so here it is a long thread including my own story.

Roshan Sebastian A concern raised re lack of attention paid to whistleblowers/canaries was wholly dismissed… that irritated me greatly. The majority of the Qs I heard surrounded replacement, poor pay parity, lack of regulation and impact on training. The responses from the leads were waffle.

I urge all JDs to Reject this offer. This essentially breaks down to a 4.05% pay rise (not a 22% pay rise), a meagre 1% more than what the conservatives offered us.

IMO, the result of the deal vote is actually less important than our cohesion afterwards. Whatever the result, the losing side needs to get on board with the resulting strategy, get involved in the union and continue to fight for FPR The future of the profession is at stake

I'm throwing my hat into the ring for the BMA Northern RDC. Why? Because northern doctors' working lives remain terrible & we've had enough playground politics. I have a plan to fight for better, for northern docs. Vote Jack from 1200 on 27/8: bit.ly/VoteBMA24 🧵

Junior doctors in England, thank you for voting in the referendum and making your voices heard. The votes are tallied and 65.97% of you voted to ACCEPT the Government’s offer. Your committee met this evening to ratify the result. We’ll be in touch soon about what happens next.
