Reaching the end of a book mss, writing that last line, is accompanied by a sense of exhaustion, trepidation, & anticlimax. Above all, there is doubt: is this 'finished'? Is any book really, ever complete? So, I quietly filed my papers & books, and went off for a cup of tea.
