Sorry, but this has a clear additionality problem. How will you prove that the activists were not going to sabotage industrial infrastructure even in the absence of payments for delayed emissions? 🤣 The methodology is a hilarious read (ton year accounting and all!)

"There is mounting evidence that CCS is ineffective. Numerous projects have failed or underperformed. Some studies indicate the technology does little to reduce emissions, and may even increase carbon and other air pollution." buff.ly/3jQSKcV

We're measuring subsidies by the trillion now?!! Not only are oil companies raking in outrageous profits, they're also getting subsidized outrageously. Name one other industry that gets subsidized while making record level profits.

Today we publish our report on a reliable, resilient and decarbonised power system - over a year in the making Climate Change Committee We set out to answer the question: “can we rely on an electricity system based mainly on variable renewables?” Yes, you really can theccc.org.uk/publication/de… 🧵

We are in far more trouble than most people understand. It’s insanity that most people are not familiar with this graph because what it shows will define the rest of all of our lives #climate

Noticed that pro-climate-action accounts were stagnating or shrinking, and that denier accounts seemed to be ballooning. So - I checked, with some help, and....yep. Elon Musk has made Twitter into a safe space for pro-fossil fuel disinformation. A 🧵 ketanjoshi.co/2023/03/28/mus…

Let's see how this prediction holds. It really seems, we are on verge of breaching FIRST TEMPERATURE limit set by Paris Agreement by next year.

How has Twitter changed for climate scientists since Elon Muck bought it? Fewer active scientists, fewer tweets, fewer likes per tweet, fewer retweets per tweet, and less likely to go viral. A thread with some data. 🧵

Let's be absolutely clear: this is a corruption of science and research. The most important single mission on climate is to STOP BURNING FOSSIL FUELS. Not give fossil fuel companies propaganda cover by pretending green tech fairies will come along eventually to clean up the mess.

ExxonMobil is investing $17 billion over 3 years in its low-carbon business google.com/amp/s/www.forb… ExxonMobil gave $30 billion back to shareholders in dividend & buybacks THIS YEAR alone. reuters.com/business/energ…. We are to believe they are serious about the energy transition?

A major shift is taking place in global energy 5 years ago, for $1 invested in fossil fuels, the same went to clean energy. But since then, a big gap has opened up. This year, for $1 invested in fossil fuels, $1.70 is going to clean energy ➡️ iea.li/3BQOlMq

The shining example of the growth in clean energy investment is solar, which in 2023 is set to attract more capital than global oil production for the first time ever This reflects the changing tide in world energy Read more in International Energy Agency's new report 👉 iea.li/43jx6Pi

Great thread by Jesse D. Jenkins pointing out oil & gas companies are giving windfall profits to shareholders instead of re-aligning towards clean energy. I don't believe they can change. So I think governments should aim to starve and bankrupt them a.s.a.p.

The record warmth the world experienced in July means that 2023 is now quite likely to end up as the warmest year since records began in the late 1850s, though its still unlikely to exceed 1.5C. I run the latest numbers over at The Climate Brink: theclimatebrink.com/p/what-a-recor…
