I still remember the "China watchers" who used to predict that China's high-speed rail network could never be a profitable operation, it was "way too ambitious and costly". scmp.com/economy/china-… Yet here we are: it generated a net profit of 1.7 billion yuan in the first half

This arises from mad government economic policies starting with the 'schwarze null'. If you try to export all your debt onto the rest of the EU then they can't afford to buy your cars. Europe ends up trapped in stagnation. Adam Smith called it beggar thy neighbour.

Richard is right. This is undoubtedly the most consequential event happening in the world right now: quite literally the whole of Africa, every single head of state, is in China right now to form an unprecedented partnership. That's 35% of humanity joining together, and there

I grew up on a farm and of course Dad let us ride on the tractors occassionally. They did not have a cab either, except the biggest crawler tractor. This seems a ridiculously intrusive law.

It is mostly down to austerity and ridiculous 'fiscal rules' that we have totally failed to invest in infrastructure and public services. Don't get those right and the private sector won't invest either.

Luke Bates will be presenting at the Scottish Currency Group Conference 2024. Come along to find out that this is all easily do-able and that the S£ is an enabler for an Independent Scotland and not an obstacle! eventbrite.co.uk/e/scottish-cur…

I don't agree with your US politics, but I do agree about this. The Gaia theory has the Earth as a body coming up to fruiting, and that means getting off the planet.

You have no idea at all about this. The Treasuries that comprise this 'debt', which are just the cash holdings of folk like Elon Musk , are Base Money. The ONLY way to get rid of Base Money is to take it off them (and destroy it) by higher tax. Btw, I am sure they will love it!

Tim Rideout (@rideouttim) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ok, Stephanie Kelton . As the Federal Debt is just a dire and unsustainable burden, lets get rid of it. I propose a one-off special tax of $33 trn on billionaires, Wall St, and large corporates. Debt is all gone, no Treasuries, no more 'burden', and everyone is happy, right?

I have watched half so far. Brilliant but just sad. It was painfull but not funny. So if you want a great event try our SCG Conference 2024. Look on Eventbrite. Carnegie Centre 21/22 Sept. A free ticket for Roddy Dunlop KC if he is available.

Corrected: Banking & financial services are a huge thorn in the side the of the UK economy, largely representing a waste of real resources whilst contributing to massive inequality between different parts of the country.

The OBR analysis is economically illiterate. However, you are also being silly. State spending is 45% of GDP. If you cut that how do you expect any growth at all in total GDP? From what?
