One of the things I really hate about #leasehold is being forced to pay thousands of pounds towards renovating someone else's water damaged #flat, due to historic neglect by previous #fleeceholders and #managingagents - they should be made to pay for their mediocrity!! 😡

This is simply nowhere near enough to move the dial on leasehold. Just end it, rather than trying to fix a fundamentally unfair system. Being able to see how badly I’m beings ripped off doesn’t make me any happier, I’d rather not be ripped off in the first place. These

You can write to managing agents until the cows come home. I daresay they will reply appropriately explaining how they operate and promising to do better. Saying is one thing actually doing another thing altogether.

A consultation on an issue in plain sight that myself and colleagues have been reporting on for years - this is two years ago youtu.be/9iIRNqYTE-0?si…

London's Olympic legacy - it's going to cost £411.1m to fix fire safety defects in the East Village housing in the Olympic Park. For residents in these homes (many of them shared owners sold an 'affordable' housing product), it has been years of misery with no end in sight

This is what all those performative photo ops with Labour MPs were leading to: a hollow consultation on managing agents. But leasehold isn’t a PR problem. It’s a structural one with real-world consequences. Tinkering won’t cut it. Publish the draft bill. Free Leaseholders

Yet more utter nonsense. This will be just like the BSA. Just got our 25/26 budget. £1000s in new “safety”-related costs. An extra couple of mms under my door will make sod all difference in a fire, compared to 2nd staircases, retrofitted sprinklers & end of Stay Put.

Angela Rayner Ange, what happened to the consultation on making it cheaper for leaseholders to extend leases and buy the freehold? That is a key policy of the 2024 Act and in November your colleague, Matthew Pennycook MP, promised to consult on it this summer. Not announced today though. Worrying!

Matthew Pennycook MP Mr Pennycook, why are you totally bottling it on this manifesto pledge. If you want to rescue the reputation of this Labour govt do something meaningful, not token and weak, on this scandal. Andrew Neil Sophy Ridge it is a scandal. And it destroys ‘ordinary people’.

For the record, I don’t want to waste my time, money and life challenging unfair leasehold charges. I want to control the running costs of my “own” supposed property.

Leasehold Hostage (@endleaseholduk) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What leaseholders need is the third party rentier structure to be obliterated. No more ground rents, insurance kick backs, opaque energy arrangements, threat of forfeiture. Remove the structure that profits from our homes. Anything else is just performative politics. #Unimpressed

john (@coleman48j) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Deluded if they think another bit of legislation will make a difference. All it's ever been, perpetually increasing legislation in an attempt to mitigate the worst abuses of leasehold.

Matt Lismore (@mattlismore) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Surely today’s announcement is superfluous? Deputy PM states here “we will abolish the current system (leasehold)” Is that no longer the ambition?

Paul (@paulfallows3) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ditto and my second full time job shouldn't be challenging freeholders, managing agents, developers, fire officers or the council just to reside in a flat!!!! Fkg ridiculous!
