People not wanting stories to take themselves seriously and have genuine sincerity is honestly pretty reflective of modern storytelling

I think this is one of the biggest cultural gap that prevents a lot of western Godzilla fans from getting the Japanese perspective.

Nothing like watching a new Fest Godzilla short at 10 AM on your break at work.

I LOVE this one’s sound design. The explosions are all such crispy and crunchy whipcracks and fuzzy crackles. Such good doom and gloom (even if it overshadows the soft-spoken character work), I will always really love the atmosphere and Cold War aesthetic irradiating from here!

people actually just want to watch more 70s-90s wuxia films & chanbara media, but for whatever reason are not doing either of that and so keep making bad videos about lightsaber combat or whatever else.

One of the weirder Ultraman enemies, but man did they go all out with the special effects cinematography in this episode. The red sky before the sun gradually rises. How cool!

Watched the whole thing. It's insane how criminally underdiscussed and underrated Spectreman is compared to its contemporaries, despite doing a lot of the things they do first (and effectively I should say). Super solid show, with some incredible plots sprinkled throughout.

On a related note, has anyone come across actual box office numbers for Rodan (1956) and Mothra (1961)? Both are considered successful films that helped establish their title monsters among Toho’s most popular creations, but reliable data for them has been hard to find.
