This is the key finding in our paper out today: patients treated by female surgeons had lower healthcare costs up to 1 year later compared to those treated by male surgeons. It seems women surgeons are delivering superior care at a lower cost. And, of course, getting paid less.

To recruit more women into cardiothoracic surgery, Wagner, Jennifer Romano, and coauthors believe it is imperative that cardiothoracic training programs create policies to normalize childbearing in training and to support trainees in achieving a healthy pregnancy. Link below.
