Queer life can feel like it lacks structure. The uncertainty often makes us wonder how to grow old, how to depend and be depended on, how to hold onto each other without structures that society and law also recognise. Nothing does this more than death and illness. (2/7)

I hope your friendships intersect with and include your families, marriages, lovers and partners. But if they don't, I hope you remember that they are enough on their own. Even if they do, I hope you give them an equal place of their own. (5/7)

Queerness, to me, is friendship - ethically, politically, legally, emotionally. Finding friends isn't easy partly because really believing in friendship - and building a life around it- isn't easy. Our collective fight must be to make it easier, imaginable, even ordinary. (6/7)

But, today, I write just to remember that friendship held me intact as I threatened to fall apart, as it always has for so many years now. I write to hold on like hell. I write to grieve. I write out of love. I write to be grateful. (7/7)

Find your people. Find allies. Don't worry too much about losing friends over politics. There are loads of people out there who are decent and friends can be made at any age, any place. I say this from experience. Strong bonds come from trust & integrity, not from shared pasts

NEW: ‘A Cartography of Genocide’. Since October 2023, we have collected and analysed data related to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza. Our findings indicate that Israel has systematically targeted all aspects of civilian life. tinyurl.com/bdcrnzka

“Queer' not as being about who you're having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but 'queer' as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and that has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.” - bell hooks

Go on more walks. Walk for no reason. Walk to solve a problem. Walk to blow off steam. Walk to get outside. Walk to listen, read, and learn. Walk to escape distractions. Walk to improve your health. Walk to think. A simple walking habit can change absolutely everything.

being annoyed is the price you pay for community. it means having guests when you'd rather be alone. it means letting someone live with you even when they get on your nerves. it means showing up for events that you'd rather not go to. it means turning the other cheek.
