Writing about my vision loss has lead to a lot of work in TV and journalism. I wanted to pay it forward. With Shared Bylines I’ve put together a scholarship for blind/visually impaired journalists. The scholarship is for three grand. Apply below. sharedbylines.com/david-brown-sc…

The The Wall Street Journal today fired my former colleague for STANDING UP for press freedom. Words cannot describe how twisted & abhorrent this is, at a time when journalists around the world are being intimidated, detained & killed into silence. In awe of Selina's bravery, strength & leadership.

While we're talking about journalists on the disability beat working at the top of their game, has anyone else noticed the unbroken chain of superb (ok fine I can't resist: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥) reporting from Julia Métraux at Mother Jones?? all hits!!

A beautiful piece about Joshua Roman's battle with #LongCovid from Pam Belluck in the The New York Times this weekend. I am humbled by how Joshua has created transcendent art through adversity, but his work is also a constant reminder of the need for LC action NOW. nytimes.com/2024/08/17/hea…

What a thrill to celebrate Mass authors today, hosted by @massbook Cheers to Hannah Moushabeck, jane Yolen, Tony DiTerlizzi, Angela DiTerlizzi, Andrew Leland, Sabina Murray, Margot Douaihy, Sebastian Merrill, Grace Lin, Giovanna Bellsia-Contuzzi, Victoria Offredi Poletto and Melissa Dickey

Transom.org (also: @transom.bsky.social) is where I learned to make radio. It is welcoming and generous and irreverent and believes that great audio is made with humility, curiosity and love. And it's just named a STELLAR new executive director and her manifesto says it all. YES. transom.org/2024/the-unloc…

For the first issue of Signal Hill I made a story about Jo Nagai, my mom's 10-year-old entomologist pen pal in Japan, and his groundbreaking research on intergenerational caterpillar memory. It's about asking questions you can and can't answer. And, of course, about my mom 🦋

Trump’s disdain for disabled people is well-known, from mocking reporter Serge Kovaleski and insulting wounded veterans to reportedly telling a relative with a disabled son that “maybe those kinds of people should just die,” writes Sam Gustin. bit.ly/4bbYrbt
