So, so important 👀 🧠Concussions will occur and it’s crucial they are identified and managed appropriately. 🧠But the KEY is reducing the number of non-symptomatic (non-concussive) rattlings a rugby player’s brain is routinely exposed to. Player load management is critical.

The former chair of the DCMS wants MPs to re-examine the issue of concussion in sport following a new BBC documentary that she says “raised a number of important issues about the risks in rugby and how those dangers have been explained to players.” 🏉 Roger Farrant Joe Crowley

"I stayed in my bedroom for a year with the curtains shut listening to audiobooks." James Collins, a former Worcester Warriors player was diagnosed with a brain condition after suffering repetitive head injuries. Read more 👇🏼 #RugbyOnTrial bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

“The program raised awareness of the serious effect it has on families, highlighting the tremendous difficulties there are in dealing with neurocognitive disorders in the long-term.” Progressive Rugby’s Prof John Fairclough was on NewstalkFM discussing BBC One #RugbyInCrisis

#RugbyOnTrial was thought-provoking but could have focussed more on what key changes can be made to better protect player brain health and the game’s long-term future. ✅Fewer games (per player not season) ✅Less contact training ✅Protected rest periods ✅More robust GRTP

Some broadly positive news. Our thoughts contained within. With continued education, improved coaching and robust monitoring of players following concussion protocols the community game can continue to become safer and more sustainable👍🏻 theguardian.com/sport/article/…

The clash between New Zealand and Wales at RWC2003 was an unbelievable game of rugby. Imagine actually playing in it but have no recollection of it, with the only reminder the honour of having Jerry Collins’ shirt hanging framed on your wall. progressiverugby.com/media/slammed-…

Impressive from Bristol Bears 🐻 in terrible conditions against Dragons RFC 🐉 this evening. Dragons also came to play and muscled over for tries of their own. A lighter moment was the tannoy announcement that someone had left their car running in the car park 🚘 How⁉️🤷🏼‍♂️

Odd that World Rugby-owned Rugby Pass goes with headline: ‘14-man Fiji secure semi-final after huge win over Tonga’ Well they were 14-men for 20 minutes of the first half…..after this reckless monstrosity. But were back to 15 for second half and obliterated Tonga 24-0.

Heading into the last 20 it’s turned into an intriguing game between #JAPvUSA in the #PacificNationsCup Japan had looked comfortable and scored some lovely tries, but USA have found a second wind. Comfortable lead now slashed to 7 in what’s been a very sweaty encounter.

Great to see Codie Taylor being closely monitored after that heavy head to ground contact and leaving the field for a HIA. Err on the side of caution. #RSAvNZL

As a stand alone image this looks outrageous, but Pollard jumps incredibly late meaning Telea has zero time to react. Despite being potentially very dangerous, a rare ‘unavoidable’ collision for tackler. #RSAvsNZL

Really good to hear Matthew Carley penalising Jordie Barrett for a dangerous entry to the ruck and repeatedly telling him he entered with ‘No Control’. #RSAvNZL

Nicely poised. Australia had built up a good lead but half-time score feels a more accurate reflection of the first 40 minutes. #ARGvAUS

Argentina were majestic in the second 40 yesterday, but not seeing any posts suggesting Los Pumas can upset the South African juggernaut. Which is of course great credit to South Africa who were also magnificent in their historic win over NZ. But 🇦🇷 couldn’t could they….?
