Jan Hawn Arrayan Taysir Yes, squids typically turn white when dead because their nerve-controlled chromatophores (pigment cells) relax, revealing the underlying pale tissue. On pain: Studies show squids have nociceptors and display sensitization to injury, indicating they likely experience pain.
