Surely this cannot stand? How could it be in anyone's interests to cut teachers' pay? Ministers should clarify urgently-before Christmas-that staff will not be forced to lose pay or change terms and conditions - and that future staff can have the same choices as current staff.

* It's not a tax break * VAT is a tax on parents not schools * It won't raise the sums Labour claim * It won't lead to 6.5k new teachers (& there are better ways for ind schools to work with the state to recruit more teachers) * It'll close small, lower cost schools & SEN schools
