I've found two things in life to be pretty reliable. I tend to trust a dog when it doesn't like a person, and I tend to trust my email client when it doesn't like a sender.

If I could give one piece of advice to marketers, it would be the stalker-esque “I saw you reviewed my email” isn’t it, chief. A “read” receipt from the email you sent me doesn’t actually mean that I read, or even acknowledged it.
