I just saw an incredibly beautiful film, Totem, dir. by Lila Avilés. Most of the film takes place in a single day, focused on the attentive perspective of a 7-year-old, Sol, who, across the day, learns more about life, her family & her father’s terminal illness. A must watch!
Here are pictures that I made for illustration projects for The Rumpus, but that never made it into the publications of the respective works. I have really enjoyed having the opportunity to engage with (and attempt to complement) the work of so many awesome writers.
I waited in line for 100 minutes (no exaggeration!) to see the National Gallery of Art exhibition Paris, 1874: The Impressionist Moment. It was worth it, if only to see Monet’s Impression, Sunrise. Altogether, though, so many awesome pieces, an excellent exhibit of that momentous occasion.
I'm thrilled to share my story, "The Free Throw Shooter," published on Short Story, Long by the greatest of editors, Aaron Burch, with illustrations I LOVE by the excellent Jiksun Cheung! I hope you read it and if you do I hope you like it. ashortstorylong.substack.com/p/the-free-thr…
Andre Aciman’s (André Aciman) Call Me By Your Name is a perfect book. WOW! Just finished it this afternoon and had to sit and hold onto it a bit before anything else.
