Today we welcome Paul Rees MBE as our Interim Chief Executive and Registrar! nmc.org.uk/news/news-and-…

Starting my 2nd week at Nursing and Midwifery Council as Interim CEO and Registrar, where I'll continue to hold face-to-face town hall meetings with our staff team to talk about how we build a positive, empowering and inclusive culture. I'll also continue having induction meetings with key partners.

First up Paul Rees MBE is given a few moments to introduce himself on day 7 in his new role as Nursing and Midwifery Council Interim Chief Exec and Registrar. He highlights that he's already held 2 'town hall' events with NMC staff and met with senior stakeholders. #NMCCouncil

It was great to go to Edinburgh last week and visit some of the nurses and students at Western General Hospital, talk with Interim Chief Nursing Officer Anne Armstrong + her team, and hold an in-person town hall with Nursing and Midwifery Council staff - to ask for their views on changing our culture.

Important visit with the Scottish Exec Nurse Directors today with my NMC ELS colleague Linda, who always gets positive feedback on her support. Lots we can do together supporting the professionals on our register Nursing and Midwifery Council Prof Kathleen Carolan Anne Armstrong Paul Rees MBE

Great to visit Cardiff on Thursday and see how AI is transforming wound care in the community - and meet Alyson Thomas, CEO of LlaisCymru, the independent body set up by Welsh govt to give people more say in the planning and delivery of their health and social care services.

Delighted we yesterday published the Nursing and Midwifery Council culture transformation plan setting out how we'll change our culture through strong + effective leadership, values-based decision making, embedding EDI, creating psychological safety, promoting job satisfaction + regulatory fairness

It was great to meet with Health Minister Karin Smyth MP, on Monday, to talk about the new Nursing and Midwifery Council culture transformation plan - which aims to turn around the culture, and embed EDI, at our organisation - and the gradual improvements in our fitness to practise process.

I spoke to Paul Rees MBE about the huge challenge of restoring trust in the NMC. Among many things, we discussed his culture transformation plan, accountability for those with 'God-like' status, and recent executive board resignations. Read more ⬇️ nursingtimes.net/professional-r…

Pleased yesterday to sign the UNISON - UK's largest union Anti-Racism Charter on behalf of Nursing and Midwifery Council. By signing, we are committing to a range of things, including recognising the need + benefit in championing a racially diverse workforce, and challenging racism internally and externally.

Delighted to be celebrating the International Day of the Midwife today. On behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Council I would like to thank all those midwives working so hard to deliver safe and effective care across the four nations. We are proud to be your regulator.

Today is International Nurses Day + I'd like to thank all those nurses across England, Scotland, Wales and NI who work tirelessly to ensure great patient services thru care, leadership, education and research. Nursing and Midwifery Council is proud to be ur regulator. #InternationalNursesDay2025

Thanks very much for your kind words, Sanjithkumar Nair (Pronouns:he/him/his). We will strive to modernise and reform the Nursing and Midwifery Council each and every day.

It was great for Nursing and Midwifery Council Chair Ron Barclay-Smith and me to meet with Health Minister Karin Smyth on Weds + update her on our steady improvement on Fitness to Practise, with 69.8% of cases being dealt with within 15 months, and our continued embedding of culture transformation.
