First time ringing at a new site last week & we've already had two Reed Warbler controls! 1) Ringed in July 2019 as an adult, 30km away in Buckinghamshire. This makes it at least 6 yrs old! 2) Ringed 5th May 2024, 40km away in Hertfordshire, just 6 days before we recaught it.

It's always exciting to find out where birds are moving, especially when it's not just within your local area! A Greenfinch we ringed in December 2023 was recaught in Old Weston, Cambridgeshire on 20th May 2024, having travelled 91km! 💚 ✈️

My first paper from my PhD is out today on Manx shearwater behaviour and climate It’s published in the same journal as the first paper from the OG Dr Siddiqi (my grandpa) 🥳 ‘Behavioural responses of a trans-hemispheric migrant to climate oscillation’ royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

How do wandering albatrosses deal with broad-scale climatic variation? Pretty well, it seems! Our new Wiley Ecology & Evolution paper uses 11-years of GPS data to show how plastic behaviour helps albatrosses to buffer environmental effects on their breeding success: doi.org/10.1002/ece3.7…

Check out our new paper “Night flight facilitates late breeding catch-up in a long-distance migratory seabird” We found that late laying shearwaters were more likely to fly more at night during migration and stopover less to “catch up” time nature.com/articles/s4159…

New paper published today in Movement Ecology! We show N. American birds that migrate in flocks have greater long-term non-breeding range shifts, particularly if flocks are mixed-age. We link this to social learning in novel mig. route development. rdcu.be/d57Mw 1/10
