I think the shame is not entirely on the fact that charlatans like Orsini are invited on talk-shows. It's the subtile talk-show setting that in centered on their psychotic point of view and does not offer enough fact-checking or rhetorically powerful guests to prove them wrong.

Excellent decision! I can't understand why #Germany will not do the same. Choosing coal over nuclear is inexcusable. #nuclear #ClimateAction

Piano Shape 🎹 A lot of pianos looks like an exponential because for waves on a string, doubling length means reducing a music pitch by an octave (2x the frequency).

The only rational move is to ignore all such pronouncements, much like you should have ignored all such pronouncements in 2021 and 2022. News worth paying attention to is not deliberately formulated to induce strong (negative) emotional responses.

Most people don't want the truth. They want their beliefs reinforced. The truth is appreciated by those who have control of their ego. Who are invested in reality even when it makes them uncomfortable.

The impact (good or bad) that you have on people through your teaching and mentoring will likely be greater than the impact of your research on society.

perry That passing off "whoa dude, what if intelligence is an emergent property of matter?" as a profound insight is rather cringe, and illustrative of a broader lack of intellectual curiosity. Spinoza said this stuff back in the 1600s. Some people have bothered to think a bit more.

Twitter used to be my favorite place on the Internet. I've derived enormous value from it in the past 16 years. Not true anymore. Most of the people I enjoyed reading have left. My feed, which used to feature art and science and technology and humor, has become constant

Calling c the "speed of light" completely misses the point. Rather, c is the "spacetime exchange rate": how many units of space you can exchange for one unit of time. In actuality, everything travels at the "speed of light", just not necessarily through space alone... (1/4)
