The next time someone tells you that modern starters are all max-effort and don't know how to pitch, show them today's Tarik Skubal 2-hit shutout. He dominated while pitching at 90% of his max velocity, which meant he sat 97-98. And touched 103 mph. baseballamerica.com/stories/tarik-…

A few weeks ago, I noticed a handful of Nationals had the same books in their lockers. Turns out, there’s a book club reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. More on the group’s journey to Middle-earth this season: washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/05…

Washington is not the one making the final decision here but this is still just a wild quote from the Angels. “We never thought that far ahead.”

THREAD: Old School vs New School🧵 “Pitchers today CAN’T throw strikes.” “Back in my day, guys actually PITCHED.” A thread on why that narrative is NON-SENSE.🧵 #Develop #MLB #Pitching

Cal Raleigh's epic power surge (even by his standards) is completely mindblowing to watch but can also largely be explained by one fact: his ability to pull the ball in the air has gone from Extremely Good to The Best and that's from *both* sides of the plate

circling back on this, this is the least pulled (furthest away from the LF foul pole) home run of Isaac Paredes’ ENTIRE CAREER!!!!!!! He has NEVER hit a home run further away from the LF foul pole than this.

Go back 20 years and the last few weeks of Priester would be everyone’s favorite pitcher. Lots of strikes ✅ Not many walks ✅ Not many strikeouts ✅ Lots of outs in play ✅ Pitching like a true throwback

The Devers trade is not going to make my feed any less Yankee/Red Sox heavy. Alas, mildly amusing to continue to see the large gaps between how front offices evaluate players and fans.

What makes a good learning activity? Almost every activity impacts learning, but how much impact depends on how it’s designed. Here’s a simple framework I use to evaluate practice design after analysing 100s of sessions across 30+ sports: 🧵 #coaching #skillacquisition

Eh, neither the team or players want to get hurt. Strongest predictor of injury is previous injury & the Dodger will sign high upside previously injured pitchers 10/10. Doesn’t need to get more complex. They have the money to sign them and the player dev to fill in any gaps.
