Can't hit this point enough. Supportive housing contractors rejected an applicant for being deaf; another for speaking truthfully about their mental illness; one just because of their gender would upset the building's gender ratio. All of which are illegal, but DSS won't step in.

Adams said his campaign of homeless sweeps was based on compassion and that they were the best way to connect people to services & housing. If that’s true, why is his Administration withholding the data?

We must also ask about more than capital funds. Building without ensuring services are truly supportive is a failure across much of NYC's supportive housing. Supportive housing must actually be "supportive" - not discriminatory and reliant on eviction processes for casework.

In this context, we should also talk about how many supportive housing providers discriminate against individuals who have experienced SMI, using symptoms of SMI to deny housing, leave people homeless, and act indifferently to what happens to those applicants going forward.

.nychealthy under Commissioner Ashwin Vasan, MD, PhD could intervene with their own contracted housing providers to stop supportive housing evictions and prevent homelessness, they just choose not to. That says all it needs to about Commissioner Ashwin Vasan, MD, PhD's priorities and tenure.
