We have found a novel mechanism of choosing α-amino acid among various amine nucleophiles when forming peptide bond in acidic aqueous solution, thanks to the intrinsic chemical property of α-amino acids! Thanks to Liu Ziwei and the boss John. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art…

Alkaline lake with bicarbonate and sulfite, shining UV light on, you will expect to get C1 to C4 carboxylate species, including acetate, glycolate,oxalate, malonate and tartrate etc. Completely different mechanism to modern biology of synthesising them!

As simple as possiple, UV irradiating bicarbonate and bisulfite gives biologically relavent organics in high yielding termed carboxylsulfite chemistry, can it be simpler? Congrats to Liu Ziwei and the collaborators.
