Suspension today of 8% of UK arms export licenses to Israel too little too late, but at least a step on from Starmer refusing to admit any Israeli violations. Lammy and Starmer's hand forced by threatened resignation of five FCDO Legal Advisers. BBC know this but won't report.

This is a big deal: FCDO officials WERE telling David Cameron there was a clear risk of misuse of weapons. He didn’t act on it, and - in my view - deliberately misled Parliament and the Foreign Affairs Committee in particular - theguardian.com/politics/artic…

Sources claim David Cameron sat on legal advice about Israel’s IHL breaches in Gaza for six months. They also say “what has eventually been published is much less strident language” than what they saw. David Lammy What else is being ‘sat on’? gov.uk/government/pub…

🚨Keir Starmer, today you said: "We either comply with international law or we don't." We agree. Yet the UK continues to sell parts for F-35 jets that have dropped bombs on Palestinians for months — violating international law. Time to end ALL arms exports to Israel. NOW.

Rohan Talbot (@rohantalbot) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Has the Foreign Secretary met any Palestinians who have escaped annihilation in Gaza yet? Seems like hearing their concerns should be paramount.

Richard Burgon MP (@richardburgon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I've just attended a powerful briefing with legal experts in Parliament about the Government's ongoing export of parts for F-35 fighter jets then used by Israel in Gaza. They were clear these violate international law and must end. I'll be campaigning to ensure that happens.

Can the former Prime Minister explain why his government Sat on legal advice that stated clearly that there was real risk British arms could be used in violations of international law? Why did he keep arming Israel after atrocity upon atrocity?

ICJP (@icjpalestine) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The UK's partial arms ban leaves out the F-35 aircraft, even though 15% of the components are made in the UK. Now, Danish NGO Danwatch has reported on the use of an F-35 in the bombing of Al-Mawasi refugee camp, which killed 90 Palestinian civilians in July. Total ban now.

Just when you thought the BBC's approach to Gaza couldn't be any more shameful, there's this: they are blocking a DEC appeal from going live. Essentially depriving Gaza of aid funds when it needs them most. theguardian.com/world/article/…

Rohan Talbot (@rohantalbot) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The reason given is grade A bullsh*t 1) Agencies are delivering on the ground, albeit with great difficulty because of Israel's restrictions 2) By taking this position the BBC effectively cedes that if Israel restricts aid then no appeal is allowed, making them complicit.

See here thenewhumanitarian.org/newsletter/202… where Will Worley covered the DEC meeting in August. Appeals can go ahead without broadcasters, as it did in 2009. But it begs the question how did the 15 INGOs vote?! x.com/rohantalbot/st…

How was Isr. able to starve 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza at unprecedented speed and intensity? I answer this question in my new report. I'll be discussing my report with the United Nations General Assembly on Friday, October 18. undocs.org/a/79/171 Here's a 🧵...

A patron for UK Lawyers for Israel, Lord Carlile, has quit his role from the pro-Israel group, saying Starmer was right to suspend arms exports. Lord Carlile also criticised David Cameron for sitting on the same legal advice re. Israel and IHL risks. middleeasteye.net/news/uk-lawyer…
