My family has a dessert tortoise, Herbie, who came to visit first grade! The students loved watching her walk and learning about tortoises. She is more than 44 years old!

Today during our enrichment time, I asked my students what THEY wanted to learn by the end of the year. This is the list they came up with. I am planning to do some whole group lessons, hyperdocs, and maybe a genius hour type thing. Any suggestions or cool ideas??

Our awesome DLC helped us learn more about coding today!

We sent home a letter for parents to fill out with important events that happened each year in their child’s life. Today we took those events and put them into a timeline. My students were so excited to share their timeline and pictures to the class! #engage

At Field Day we learned all about how to have fun!

We’re learning how to write letters in writing. Kids are really excited that they get to write letters to their friends and deliver them! #ourfisdstory

This week in science, our students are having some fun using parts of animals to create their own animal. They get to design the habitat and think about what their animal will need to survive.

We had an Economics Fair today where students set up shop with homemade items to sell for 25 cents. There are some future entrepreneurs in first grade!

The last week of school means it’s time for Camp First Grade! Today was “Camp Read and Write A lot”. We got to have some fun doing both. Our favorite thing was turning our tables into forts for reading with flashlights.

Today for “Camp Explore A lot”, I set out the math manipulative and let the kids explore! They had a blast creating and playing with our math tools.

We love to apply our science learning in outdoor explorations. The class walked around the imaginarium to find objects and describe their properties

We are growing our reading brains during RTI time with Daily 5 stations. The independence and repetition makes it easy for me to pull an intervention group #betheWE Woodridge

I’ve learned students love to learn from their peers. I take any chance I can get for students to explain their thinking to the class!

In year 3 I finally figured out math stations that work for me. Each student visits all four stations a day. Sometimes it is so student lead that I feel like I can just sit back and watch until I’m needed!

Our first “Think Outside the Box Thursday”. It is always fun to see my students creativity. Here were some of my favorites!

Making 3D shapes with play doh at teacher table is a great way to encourage talking using mathematical vocabulary. I also noticed it helped with any misconceptions on 2D vs 3D. “I’m going to turn my sphere into a cube” “I use the table to help make the faces”
