'In every way a lively, intelligent and creative boy, he is innumerate. For this harmless failing ...' Would you say the same of an illiterate child of the same age? This exemplifies the problem adult society has with maths, and why children fear it so. amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

THREAD on the Ofqual consultation. The exams situation is a fiasco on top of a debacle. Yes - loads of kids have missed out on schooling. That is bad. Yes - the provision across the system is the most unequal it has been in living memory. That is bad.

OK, so the Y6/7 transition packs were soooooo popular, that I was thinking of asking the unbelievable content design team SparxMaths to create a booklet/course to support for y11/12 transition (i.e. getting ready for AS). If a good idea, RT this to sigal "yes please I want one"

I attended this last year in advance of teaching A level again for the first time in over 5 years. It was absolutely excellent. Quality presenters and sessions, and a great opportunity to speak to others in a similar position to yourself. Would highly recommend!

F23: Mathematical etudes takeaways - using rich tasks can be an alternative to exercises, but only if accompanied by excellent questioning - embed skills practise in a wider context, alleviate boredom? - low threshold, high ceiling, easy simplification and extension ideal #bcme9

CGarton (@mrgartonmaths) 's Twitter Profile Photo

G04: Misconceptions takeaways - mistakes easily develop into misconceptions, but a difference - isolate key pieces of knowledge and vary the topics in your interleaving - overgeneralisation! - misconceptions never disappear from long term memory #mindblown #bcme9 Craig Barton

CGarton (@mrgartonmaths) 's Twitter Profile Photo

H02: 'Something in common' takeaways - look for problems that contain some kind of invariance - exploit the invariance by modifying the other parameters - ensure that students can't freeload and that you can easily check as a teacher, genius! - a tonne of great resources! #bcme9

CGarton (@mrgartonmaths) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Berinderjeet Kaur takeaways: - a mathematics framework composed of concepts, skills, processes, attitudes and metacognition building both conceptual understanding and fluency - quality instructional materials provided - teachers entitled to 100 hours of paid CPD per year! #bcme9

An amazing experience at my first conference #bcme9! So much great stuff to use in the classroom. Now time to sleep for a week. Looking forward to the next one!
