I don't know what went wrong with 2018's The Predator - but I'm pretty certain that what ended up onscreen wasn't Shane Black and Fred Dekker's original screenplay.

If you haven't read it - and you have an interest in James Bond, then I highly recommend Roger Moore's The 007 Diaries: Filming Live And Let Die. It's an anecdote filled look at (surprisingly enough) the making of his first Bond movie. Well worth a read.

Jean-François Richet's Assault On Precinct 13: I'd be the first to hammer a John Carpenter remake - but this is an expertly handled action pic. The cast (toplined by Ethan Hawke & Laurence Fishburne) is first-rate. Snowy visuals add to the atmosphere & the action is well staged.

Brian De Palma's Tom Cruise starrer is an incredibly stylish piece of espionage cinema that echoes the original TV show's ’60s origins. Great performances, tense sequences & that brilliant theme tune make Mission: Impossible immense fun. Choose to accept it!

Fantastic front row action at the Chuck Ragan gig last night Limelight Belfast! Great support from Nate Bergman & Brian Brody. Perfectly delivered punk-folk with Ragan's trademark gravelly vocals. Shout-out to Todd Beene's pedal steel guitar. Pics- including one with the man himself!

Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs remains an incendiary piece of cinema over 30 years on. The film's deleted scenes are perfect omissions because they would have killed its tension & structure. What other films work simply because of scenes the filmmakers DIDN'T include?

Gavin O'Connor's The Accountant 2: an entertaining old-school action thriller. Ben Affleck & Jon Bernthal are great as ass-kicking brothers. This feels like it was released in 1999 - which is no bad thing. Strong plotting, good characterisation & plenty of humour when needed.

From the Movies In Focus archives... An original tie-in Parker pen for Pierce Brosnan's first James Bond film, Goldeneye. This is unopened - so I'm not sure if it will explode after 3 clicks. Only Q Branch & 007 will be able to tell me that!

It's criminal that we never got a film where Fred Ward played Jon Bernthal's father.

Jonathan Mostow‘s Breakdown is a nightmarish suspense thriller. Kurt Russell excels as the desperate everyman battling country hicks to find his missing wife (Kathleen Quinlan). Shades of Duel & Deliverance, Mostow shows a knack for building tension & the action is well staged.
