The JNC ensures DC has judges who are vetted and qualified for the President to select. A new House bill would eliminate it and let President Trump handpick our judges without any say from DC residents. That’s not accountability: It’s control. Hear more from Charles Allen:

House Dem Whip notice just came out. While the notice states that “House Republicans are furthering their encroachment on the District of Columbia’s right of home rule,” it still doesn’t explicitly tell House Dems to vote no on both H.R. 5125 and H.R. 5143…

HR 4922, the DC Crimes Act, dismantles DC’s Home Rule by giving Congress direct control of DC’s criminal justice system and overruling DC Council’s ability to legislate. Democrats should be protecting DC’s right of self-government, not aiding the authoritarian takeover of DC.

House GOP is specifically pushing this bill (H.R. 5125—the DC Judicial Nominations Reform Act) to disenfranchise our communities and dismantle DC’s Home Rule in retaliation for how DC’s courts prevent Trump from implementing his far-right, white nationalist agenda to takeover DC.

218-211: House along party lines passed legislation to end the DC judicial nomination commission, giving the president the sole authority to select and nominate judges for DC Courts. It's third of 4 bills the House passed this week to change DC policing and criminal sentencing

Despite universal opposition among top D.C. elected officials, 29 Democrats join House Republicans in voting to roll back police chase policies in D.C.

29 House Democrats just voted for the “District of Columbia Policing Protection Act of 2025” (H.R. 5143), which more easily allows high-speed vehicular pursuits by MPD in the District:

245-182: House passed legislation to change DC law allowing DC police to pursue suspects in cars if it doesn't pose unacceptable risks to bystanders. 29 Democrats joined all Republicans in voting Yes. The District of Columbia Policing Protection Act now heads to the Senate.

DC AG tells House Oversight “Sending masked agents in unmarked cars to pick people up off the streets; flooding our neighborhoods with armed National Guardsmen; attempting a federal takeover of our police force—none of these are durable, lasting solutions for driving down crime”

The Republican crackdown on DC is a stunt to distract from the crimes being committing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Ranking Member Congressman Robert Garcia opens up today’s hearing by calling out the crime at the White House.

DC is made up of vibrant communities and hard-working people who are the backbone of our city. We are business owners, veterans, teachers, nurses, police officers, and civil servants. We are Americans who deserve the same freedom to govern ourselves that other Americans enjoy.

Mohammed Khader (@mohammedkhaderr) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Members of Congress like this, who come from districts thousands of miles away to our communities here in DC, have no understanding of how DC works, yet push harmful policies that disenfranchise us and destroy our right to govern ourselves. This is why DC statehood matters.

This makes at least two House Republicans who sit on the committee that oversees D.C. yet don't know some pretty basic stuff about how D.C.'s criminal justice system works. (Don't they have staff to prepare them?)
