For this week's The House magazine, James Ellison and I have written an appreciation of the doyen of School of History, Queen Mary University of London, Peter Hennessy. We explore Peter's work as historian and horizon scanner and revisit his books on Britain's 'Secret State' and the nuclear deterrent. civilserviceworld.com/in-depth/artic…

Lovely to see mine and James Ellison’s piece about how School of History, Queen Mary University of London legend Peter Hennessy has changed how we think about the ‘Secret State’ in this week’s The House magazine. Thanks to Francis Elliott for asking us to write about one of the most warm-hearted and wise people in academia!

I am so pleased and proud to be returning to my old uni at Queen Mary University of London to join the team at the excellent Mile End Institute as an honorary research fellow. My interest in opposition and political institutions began there a quarter of a century ago, so this is a delightful homecoming.
