Days after Trump's election I wrote about the three things Canada needed to do. I think a lot of people reached the same conclusions, but did we act on them? In short: surprisingly well, but not by a direct path. A thread on how these ideas fared theglobeandmail.com/gift/e33036f36…

🚏 Today is great day for people and our economy. Together, TransLink's Mayors' Council and the province have secured a new Investment Plan that will expand service across the region & allow us to move forward with Bus Rapid Transit to the North Shore! News from TransLink North Shore Connects

Danielle Smith is playing fast and loose with the future of the country. It seems like a long shot that Alberta would vote to leave, but who knows what happens once you start down this path. It’s a live-ammo outing now. Utter insanity.

Bruce Arthur (@bruce_arthur) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Without popular support for separation, she has seriously limited options. But Moscrop is exactly right: this is live ammo-stuff now, the way Brexit was, the way Trump as a candidate was. She is reckless, and part of a political movement of delusion and dishonesty. Very dangerous

Just asked a California transit manager if the state's Zero Emission Bus mandate is causing them to run less service than they otherwise would. He said: "Yes, definitely." A diesel bus only has to get 4 ppl out of cars to be better for the planet than an electric bus. Hmm.

Michael Buda (@mikebuda) 's Twitter Profile Photo

x1000. For the love of god, please stop positioning zero-emission buses as climate action. Moving to ZEBs is good operational policy, but if one's interest is in reducing GHGs from transportation, then the 1st, 2nd and 3rd priority should be to increase service and mode share.

This unfashionable spike in immigration is the biggest economic failure of the Justin Trudeau years. It also changed the political consensus from “immigration is good” to “whoops!”

I have a lot of patience for protest. But these people, like the Ottawa occupiers, have violated the unwritten social contract that protects protest: At some point you need to piss off. This is especially true in this case, which is a 100% foreign issue.

There is nothing any Canadian government can do to influence the situation in gaza. Literally nothing. We are a mosquito in a hurricane. And not a big mosquito.

Mayors’ Council Chair Brad West and Metro Vancouver Chair Mike Hurley were in Ottawa talking to new Housing and Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson (a former MC Chair!) about the importance of local housing-supportive infrastructure like transit, water and waste water.
