I think the main thing here is that one of the worlds most prestigious team's in one of the worlds most popular sports (i.e, access to anyone/anything) has deliberately chosen to bring in a 78yr old track and field coach because he has a level of expertise they don't have

As a youth sports official for over 25 years, I’ve witnessed and experienced this first hand on a regular basis to this day. Going a step further, I’ve seen it influence parent/spectator behavior as well. 🤦
