Spend decades reducing the ability of doctors to influence the way that hospitals run. Trashing efficiency in process. Then limit doctors pay based on something that has intentionally been taken from their control. Wes Streeting do you even know how anything works?

Wes Streeting is talking about training many more GPs. Lots of GP trainees coming out of their training schemes this summer face unemployment because he will not give the NHS funds to offer them jobs. What Streeting says and does are totally different things.

Today's 10 Year Health Plan is largely a disappointment, despite Wes Streeting's promise that it would deal with training bottlenecks and end doctor underemployment. Here's why👇🧵 (1/3)

The new work force plan predictably doubles down on substitution & AI but doesn’t touch on the impact of inappropriately changing professional boundaries nor reliance on nascent tech This was a missed opportunity to have an honest conversation about what we want Vs can afford

Cunha Indranil Chakravorty MBE 🇮🇳🇬🇧🌏 NHS BAPIO The BMA Wes Streeting The problem is that the workforce is a pyramid not a cube, and the work supply/demand gap is lower down. Whether you meet that gap through more doctors or non-doctors is a valid debate, but it doesn’t create more space at the top

So there are now over 14 applicants for every EM training post. Double the ratio in 2024 The process is not working as it should and needs change

The MSRA has completely ruined medical recruitment, but there’s something far larger at play here. How is it ethical to push people into a profession through shiny new med schools when we know there is such a lack of jobs? Failure of workforce planning. medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-traini…

Annie We started the Choose Psychiatry campaign in 2009 when I was College Dean and we weren’t filling our CT posts. Now, we fill them, but we don’t recruit many great and motivated people who and only 50% who start CT1 move on to ST4. So, nobody should be rejoicing and is much to do.

Phone the hairdresser and find it fully booked you think "they must be really popular they're so busy" Phone the GP and find it fully booked you think "they're lazy and mustn't be working" That's how the media and politicians have spun the public against their GPs

I may well regret this, but for what they are worth here are my thoughts on the ACP debate in one thread. Please do read them all, remember I am just a consultant in EM with no RCEM responsibility and hopefully my passion for EM is evident after a quick google of my name.

Why don’t the government take heed of proper doctors like ⁦Dr Matt Morgan? Its because they live in a world where escalation of promises is routine and believe doctors resent accountability and diminished control share.google/4g1TzQIJXO7BCu…

NHSE’s winter plan is inadequate. 500k patients waited >12hrs in English EDs Jun-Sep alone. Our knackered ED teams are looking for lasting action so we have beds for our patients, not non-existent “quick wins,” job freezes, and managers playing “war games” independent.co.uk/news/health/nh…

Earlier today I wound up looking after a major trauma patient in the middle of a road for seventy five minutes until an ambulance arrived. Thankfully I have since heard the patient is ok, but this is an utterly disgraceful example of the current state of the NHS.
