Heat related emergencies are "more extensive in socially vulnerable and disadvantaged communities" JAMA Investing in fossil fuels exacerbates profound global health disparities. It's time #HealthcareDivest from fossil fuels Climate Safe Pensions Network bit.ly/3LcWoIb

Imagine if this was a "new, interactive map" of family MDs and nurse practitioners "across the province" accepting new patients; ERs with no hallway gurneys; and detox facilities ready to help people improve their lives. The things that matter more right now.

I see opioid overdoses in the emergency department every day. Likewise I see the lives saved by safe injection sites and community naloxone programs. It’s hard to know if what’s on display here is ignorance, stupidity, or just a willingness to play politics with people’s lives.

With respect Pierre Poilievre, these are not "drug dens", they are health centres. They save lives. In fact the staff have attended to about 50,000 overdoses & medical emergencies since 2017, with no reported fatalities onsite. Thousands of women and men are alive because of SCS.

Data here health-infobase.canada.ca/datalab/superv… about millions of visits & how people receive health & social services that include counselling, medical care, detox, treatment, mental health support, housing services. This is how a compassionate society cares for the most vulnerable among us.

Dr Philpott is a former Federal Health Minister, physician and Dean of Medicine - trust her and not Pierre Poilievre on health and addictions issues. Her short thread is fact, not fiction. Conservative “common sense” will lead to more deaths. Jane Philpott

The first sanctioned supervised consumption site in North America is in Vancouver. It’s called Insite and it opened in September 2003. Staff there have reversed about 12,000 overdoses, and referred people to treatment and health care services over 70,000 times, AT THIS ONE SITE

The lack of humanity, the ignorance and the air of moral superiority among "common sense" Conservatives illustrates the danger of their health policy leadership. Such hateful policy-making will diminish Canada. GoC policies are not perfect, but this scorn is short-sighted.

It's time once again to remind everyone that emergency department (ED) crowding is not due to low acuity visits. ED crowding is due to hospital crowding and the inability to move admitted patients to the floors. Emergency Physicians can handle busy. It's crowding that kills.

One supervised consumption site can prevent 83 new cases of HIV in a single year, saving more than $17 million in future healthcare costs - Canadian Public Health Association. Harm reduction saves lives and money. sudbury.com/local-news/exp…

Right. Don't blame the patients AND also don't get the idea that this is the cause of emergency department overcrowding. Crowding is because the beds are occupied by admitted patients with no bed to go to upstairs. We can handle 'busy' — it's the crowding that harms people.

Here's what happens when you close supervised consumption sites for people who use drugs. More public consumption.📈 More overdose deaths.📈 More brain injuries.📈 More health complications.📈 More public safety issues. 📈 More trauma & PTSD on our first responders and

Dr. Boozary highlights the silver-bullet - "Housing First". House all the homeless. It is the right thing. More effective than us MDs. It saves taxpayer money. I'm an ER doc - all I do is say there are no shelter beds. If brutal cold, sure a chair until morning. Andrew Boozary MD

FT: #VWFC 2-0 #InterMiamiCF The biggest win of Whitecaps MLS history Tate Johnson keeping Messi in his pocket. Brian White outshining Suarez. Sebastian Berhalter bossing out Busquets. It’s what dreams are made of. It’s what this team is capable of. It’s the Vancouver Whitecaps

A statement victory. The Whitecaps showed tonight that they aren't just a playoff team, they are a contender. And they did that by making the Supporters Shield leading Philadelphia Union look like a Sunday League team. The break really energized them. #VWFC
