Did you know the New Forest has a deep connection to Romany Gypsy heritage? 🌳 During the summer, Romani Community Archaeology, led by co-directors John-Henry Phillips and Dr Stu Eve, worked to uncover the Thorney Hill site with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. 📸 New Forest Heritage and Lorna Conway

I'm particularly pleased to see this stated in the most recent DCMS culture and heritage capital publication. Its a really critical point that underscores how closely connected culture and nature are.

A Medieval barn on the 'Downtown Abbey' estate has been removed from our #HeritageAtRisk register. 🥳 Built for the Bishop of Winchester between 1451 and 1453, the Grade I listed structure retains most of its original timber frame, thanks to careful repairs by Highclere Castle.

Here's some good news. It looks as if Historic England may be able to carry out some dendrochronological research at the Manor House, which may help to answer questions about the dates and sequencing of various phases of construction — all very exciting!
