Since I appear to be a terrible predictor of the weather today, you should definitely direct all future questions to Andrew Golden. He's off today, but he's happy to provide updates from off-site!

Rain delay reading: Slumping CJ Abrams and Keibert Ruiz are getting the day off. Plus, some rehab updates on Derek Law, Paul DeJong and Orlando Ribalta. masnsports.com/blog/entry/slu…

Cade Cavalli tossed 5 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 0 walks while striking out 4 over 63 pitches today in Worcester. Over his last five Triple-A starts: 1.52 ERA, 1.099 WHIP, 30 K, 6 BB in 23.2 IP.

Evan Carter drives an 87.9 mph fastball over the plate from Trevor Williams to right-center for a 2-run homer. Nats down 2-0.

Through 3 scoreless innings, the Nationals lineup has produced 1 hit, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts vs. Rangers opener Jacob Latz. Both baserunners were wiped out on double plays, the latter on a strike-em-out, throw-em-out DP when Jacob Young overslid the bag.

Since beginning his career a perfect 25-for-25 on stolen base attempts, Jacob Young is just 26 for his last 46. (Now 5-for-10 this season.)

With the team off tomorrow, Davey Martinez has the luxury of being aggressive with his bullpen usage today. Trevor Williams pulled after a 1-out double in the 5th on his 81st pitch. Brad Lord enters in a 2-2 game.

With help from an E3 (dropped throw from short) charged to Nathaniel Lowe, Brad Lord allowed the runner he inherited from Trevor Williams to score. Nats trail again, 3-2 in the 5th.

Jose A. Ferrer inherited a bases-loaded jam from Brad Lord and got out of it with strikeouts of Josh Smith and Sam Haggerty. Impressive job there by the Jazzman.

That is the first run charged to Cole Henry since April 28. Had tossed 15 1/3 scoreless innings of relief since then. Nats down 4-2 now.

Final: Rangers 4, Nats 2. Trevor Williams takes his 7th loss. Robert Garcia earns his 4th save. Nationals finish homestand 2-4 and have scored 11 total runs over their last 7 games.

Nationals optioned Nasim Nuñez to Triple-Rochester after today's game. They'll have to call another position player up before Tuesday's opener in New York. Not sure if they'd have Brady House make his MLB debut on the road. If not, maybe Andres Chaparro?

"Look, if it doesn't get through, some of these guys, we're going to have to do something else. We can switch the lineup. I can sit guys out. I might have to platoon guys. But when it does get through, you see the results. It's there." masnsports.com/blog/entry/run…

Art Silber, who has owned the FredNats franchise for decades (since it was known as the Prince William Cannons), is selling the team to Diamond Baseball Holdings (which owns more than 40 minor-league teams). Doesn’t impact the team name or affiliation with Washington Nationals.
