Totally anecdotal, but a good number of the “buy the new iPhone every year no matter what” people I know are skipping this year. Why they found the iPhone 13 Pro meaningful enough to upgrade to but not this year is unclear.

“Hello Apple Intelligence” plastered on Apple’s most recognizable store with a release not happening for probably 3-4 weeks. I wonder what — if any — fallout there will be within Apple for this delay.

Apple is facing an unprecedented challenge: persuading customers to buy its latest iPhones without their biggest new feature. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Xbox President Sarah Bond has a huge job: a mobile store, subscriptions, next gen hardware (maybe a handhend) while keeping Xbox's traditional console gamers happy amid a lot of change Cecilia D'Anastasio and I profile Bond, her plans and her skills for Businessweek bloomberg.com/news/features/…

The first iPhone 16 buyers don’t care about the lack of Apple Intelligence. The lines this morning have been impressive. One retail employee: “No contest, far more demand this year.” Another: “Biggest line we’ve had in a long time.” Still early. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Apple has made moving over data from one iPhone to a new one really seamless. But the actual process of getting things going after that — logging into apps again etc — takes hours. Ultimate first world problem, but certainly Apple is working on this as the next step.

I do wonder if Apple should have kept Apple Intelligence as an iPhone 16 exclusive. Allowing it to run on the 15 Pro/Pro Max doesn’t really benefit the business. Would have made the 16 a stronger update. The marketing messaging makes it clear they know this too.

I think people in a few weeks are going to be in for a real shock when they install iOS 18.1 having expected a bunch of fancy AI features given all the hype. There’s truly not a lot coming in October. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

Apple Watch Ultra 2 in black: I absolutely love the new color option. I played with the Series 10 — I am not a fan at all as an Ultra user for two years. In a vacuum, I wouldn’t recommend any other Apple Watch. I wish there was a real update this year though. Unlike Apple.

Tried the Ultra 2 black Milanese Loop today. It feels uncharacteristically low quality compared to Apple’s other bands. I don’t recall the non-Ultra Milanese feeling this way. I wish they made an Ultra-specific link bracelet.

One other thing: I haven’t experienced any overheating on the 16 Pro, the complete opposite of the experience of many people with the 15 Pro last year. Huge improvement. This problem was denied and then fixed — typical playbook.

Power On: The iPhone 16 has tantalizing camera improvements, but the device is emblematic of Apple’s slower pace of hardware innovation. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…
