Seems like there is some confusion about this based on the follow-on reports. These are the folks who were already laid off from the car and display projects. This isn’t another/new layoff. The news here is we for the first time have a number. That’s it.

The actual number is higher. Apple had a car presence in Arizona (divided between employees and contractors) and many display engineers in Asia. Those layoffs aren’t included in the 614 people reported to California.
