The texture of the top of the rail indicates WMATA clearly does railhead maintenance — occasionally grinding the top of the rail to make it curved again and reduce the contact surface with the wheels This reduces friction, making it easier for trains to roll, & reduces noise

110 years old and still going strong! 💪 The buses are running again through the East Side Transit Tunnel! Congrats to RIPTA for reopening this important and unique piece of transit infrastructure! 🎉

I absolutely still can't get over this hilarious vignette of whatever the heck I'm saying to the other T staff with Tommy Vitolo and Dom peeking their heads down the aisle together in the background 🤣

In 2021, MBTA consolidated four substandard stations on the Green Line B branch into two that have accessible level boarding, large shelters, and safe crosswalks on both ends. SF and Philadelphia are doing similar work to modernize corridors built a century ago for streetcars.

A lot of NYC locals are coping by blaming gentrifiers. Habibi, gentrifiers in the Brooklyn and Queens waterfront neighborhoods are one of the reasons why it wasn’t a complete red blowout. Another hard truth: NYC’s Trump voters are white ethnic native New Yorkers and immigrants.

So you've probably seen the migration to 🟦🌆... You may have also missed my attempt here to separate transit/urbanism/housing stuff from my personal, general nerd stuff Use this username over there for the former - I'll use my old username @digitalsciguy for the latter

🥺 this is one of the many voices of my childhood growing up on Long Island The tonal variations in his voice offer really important rhythm to the announcements in ways I've always wanted to replicate on trains and buses in Boston Thank you, Van 🫡
