I met a co-teacher today who went off on me before I could introduce myself. “I had a bad experience with co-teaching/it’s not going to work/ how can I teach these kids who speak only Spanish” Wow that was hostile.

This is just one of a few incidents I’ve had in the past couple of days. It’s shocking to me that in 2023 we still have teachers who are not open-minded. 🥺

I met a teacher today who said he doesn’t know what growth mindset is. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m printing this out for him.

As a new school year begins, I wanted to share some advice for students heading back to school. Remember to always be yourself, try your best, and never be afraid to make mistakes. I believe in you and can’t wait to see all that you do this school year!

Realistic lesson frames: Today I will: learn some material So I can: be over-tested I’ll know I’ve got it when: I do not fail the many tests

This is for the young progressives out there. When I was a bit younger, I was terribly disappointed with then President Bill Clinton, who signed the hateful DOMA and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell into law. It seemed he had betrayed all of his values and the LGBTQ community that had

The after swell of Covid is flooding today's classrooms. Student apathy, disengagement, no social norms - not all students' fault but we've got to figure this out soon.

Trump is already talking about using the Insurrection Act on his first day in office, if he is reelected, to put down any civil protests. I can’t stress this enough. No matter what you think of Biden, his age, his policies, he is no dictator. He believes in democracy. We cannot

The rampant disrespect, vulgar language, violence, disinterest, absenteeism, and low effort are not the fault of schools or teachers. Teachers shouldn’t be expected to work miracles in order to simply be adequate at their job. You want to fix schools, fix society.

My school is overcrowded and understaffed. Every week we receive 3-5 new, ESOL students. We have to find classes for them. We are not allowed to factor in their predictable late enrollment for staffing. And if they arrive after September, they don't count for next year either

It never fails, I almost always catch a cold just as the start of a vacation. Could just be the time of the year, but I wonder if it's also me in some way telling my body it can relax now.
