Being a resident is wild because you get so little positive reinforcement. You can literally save someone from the brink of death and the response from the attending is, “good job, but you should do xyz instead” and that’s the highest praise you’ll get for the next 6 months

Medical training often conditions people to become bad communicators. We learn about closed loop communication in med school. Residency is full of toxic personalities where direct communication for many topics is punished, so this bleeds into patient care.

Student loans account for less than 5% of the national debt...so, the whole "shouldering the cost" is bullshit designed to feign sympathy for their immoral cause to place greater burdens and barriers to education. Burn in hell you immoral cowards

boy are a lot of hit dogs hollering. this is a biological fact and nowhere in this post did Dr. Vater say no one should work nights or call, or that training shouldn’t be rigorous or that it’s realistic to aim for all of us to get ten uninterrupted hours of sleep every night

Residents: “we need adequate rest with humane work conditions to be better physicians for our patients” Bitter physicians who graduated residency 20 years ago: “so you guys are wimps, cry babies, and losers!!!! in my day our attendings slapped us across the face and we LIKED IT”

Giving kids access to Medicaid... ■ decreases mortality, ■ increases employment, ■ decreases receipt of disability transfers... ...up to 50 years later. "Medicaid has saved the government **more than its original cost** and saved more than 10M quality adjusted life-years."

It costs taxpayers $89,425 to incarcerate one person at Trump’s “Alligator Alcatraz” per year. That’s more than what 95% of Americans spend on housing and food. Republican priorities: Waste tax dollars torturing immigrants, while cutting support for working class families.

This is important: students rely heavily on Qbanks. Patient portrayal is part of the hidden curriculum, shapes heuristics & unrealistic representation may predispose ppl to overlooking important aspects of caring for ppl who are homeless (e.g.: CV disease & cancer screenings).
