A productive meeting today with #Rolf Buehlmann, managing director of the The Peninsula Hotels London at Hyde Park. We discussed ways luxury venues like The Peninsula can help Westminster City Council young people join the hospitality industry which is a huge strength of the #WestEnd
The community celebration day at London Zoo really shows how much local people are part of this world-famous institution. I caught up with friends from Westminster Adult Education Service, volunteer Fehmida taught me potting skills & 2-y-o Brelle took a shine to the The Lord Mayor of Westminster chain of office!
After joining the community celebration day at London Zoo I visited the monkey enclosure with keeper Sarah Cockle & Zoo community manager Kerry Bailey Kerry Bailey. Also caught up with the gorillas - as you see behind me gorilla Effie & baby escaped the glare of publicity!
Just visited Turning Point 💙🌈 in Soho - moving to talk to Kelly who has overcome alcohol issues & former Polish rough sleepers Anna & Grzegorz - all now helping others. Also met psychiatrist Dr Mohammed Alsaidi who you can see with no appointment. Amazing Westminster City Council service.
Many hands make light work - especially when children at the Cardinal Hume Centre are helping. Today I joined in a family session & then was put to work in my The Lord Mayor of Westminster branded apron to prepare lunch. Families love having Cardinal Hume Centre in the heart of Westminster City Council
Japan is a major investor in the UK with a strong presence in Westminster City Council so pleased to meet Sandy Sano (left), chairman of arts festival #JapanMatsuri & Hitoshi Ota, sec general of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Good conversation on building links @JapaninUK
The family area at Cardinal Hume Centre is a great service in the heart of Westminster City Council - a place for play, lunch & a chance to make new friends. Cardinal Hume Centre also provides practical advice in areas including housing to local mums like Leila, as I discovered on my visit.
Orange gloves & green fingers: amazing work by volunteers from One Westminster & Westminster Connects at St John's Wood Church grounds. I met newest recruit Sonia (left), longest serving volunteer Caroline (35 years!) & a host of great people - you make Westminster City Council proud.
Congratulations to all the runners who took part in the The Big Half this weekend and huge shout out to those running for the MCC Foundation and Cardinal Hume Centre A fantastic day for everyone who ran, jogged, walked or cheered along the 13.1 mile course, well done everyone!
Honoured to host a reception for the incredible Westminster Abbey Company of Ringers at the Lord Mayor’s Parlour. Their dedication and skill enrich our city’s heritage. Thank you for your service to our community! Westminster Abbey #Bellringers
With the summer of sport still in full swing, it was a pleasure to attend the Sport for Confidence Open Day at Queen Mother Sports Centre this morning. Great to meet some of our residents, practice my table tennis skills and give seated boccia a go 🏓🥎
Today I joined Cllr Adam Hug in raising a special flag outside Westminster City Council Hall to mark #999Day. Our blue lights services & NHS workers are out around the clock, saving lives & sometimes risking theirs. This special day allows us to show how much we value them Emergency Services Day - 9 Sept
Thumbs up to exercise! I got my special The Lord Mayor of Westminster shirt on to join year 6 pupils at St Vincent de Paul RC Primary School for a lap of the playground. I'm visiting more than 40 schools across Westminster City Council to support exercise - great to see SVP rising to the challenge!
I helped to serve lunch to homeless people at the service run by Central London Catholic Churches (CLCC) from Farm Street Church in Mayfair. The generosity of nearby hotels & restaurants means around 140 people a week get a good meal. Insightful to talk to people there and a credit to Dominic Robinson SJ & volunteers
London's Japanese community were out in force for the launch of the book The Shortest History of Japan, by Lesley Downer. An essential event for the Lady Mayoress, the first Japanese person in Westminster City Council history to hold that role! I stressed the links between our countries
Really impressed by enthusiasm for fitness shown by staff & pupils at St Joseph's RC primary school - I'm touring all Westminster City Council primaries to promote exercise & these children show how much early fitness habits benefit school life. Great jogging, you left me standing!
