Mission accomplished on a cold, blowy Wednesday ~ two Fisher's Estuarine Moths emerged on the hog's fennel & gave wonderful views. We've waited a long time to see this nationally rare, restricted-range moth & it was a proper buzz when we saw them. Again, thx to James Hunter.
Today's Bockhill visit was far more rewarding than in 2009! In a freshening wind, the early signs weren't good ~ unfamiliar site, no one around, big bushes! But we pinned down the super 1w Red-backed Shrike late on & it was rather fine. Thx to Nige Jarman for local info & tipsπ
A moth for Johnny... Quite possibly the darkest, blackest, most perfect Black Rustic I've ever seen from this morning. Immaculate in Sable & Raven hues. charlie higson #cleymothobs
A flurry of early action at CMO last night, which fell away as the temperature dropped. Two NFY species were nice bonuses: a super Feathered Thorn, two subtle November Moths (agg). Also in the mix an active Grey Shoulder-knot & hideaway Delicate. Cheers Nige Jarman! #cleymothobs
If you've a spare hour give the story, wonderfully told by Birds Ireland, of Ireland's legendary White Prominent moth a listen (there's also a lovely introduction to the mechanics of mothing too). Thx Eric & RTΓ Radio 1 for such an enlightening 60 minsπ rte.ie/radio/radio1/cβ¦
