"The time to act is now! Transparency is key. As a matter of fact, the pay gap is smaller for workers in sectors where pay transparency is mandated." #LatinaEqualPayDay

"Eta is the fastest-intensifying November storm ever observed in the Atlantic." People's lives in Honduras had already been ravaged by poverty, insecurity and the COVID-19 Pandemic. Now Hondurans brace for Eta. washingtonpost.com/weather/2020/1…

A week ago there were thousands of the poorest of the poor living here along the banks of the Chamelecon River in San Pedro Sula. EVERYTHING they had was washed away by flooding caused by Hurricane Eta. #Honduras

No, it wasn't groundhog day at #SCOTUS. Obamacare was once again on chopping block. But a majority of Justices seemed disinclined to strike down the whole law, as Trump Adm wanted. npr.org/2020/11/10/933…

9/Rain & winds destroyed crops across Honduras. Many subsistence farmers have already been struggling to survive due to the effects of climate change. This photo was shared with me from El Paraiso, far from the epicenter of damage.

Very concerning forecast from the NHC for Iota weather system, which could become a major hurricane by the time it reaches Honduras/Nicaragua early next week. Rainfall could begin as early as Sunday & could dump 20 to 30 inches along the north coast by Wednesday.

The more intense hurricanes and prolonged drought drive people away from their devastated lands and communities. "I don’t see a lot of options for Central America to deal with the global warming issue,” said Masters. “There are going to be a lot migrants..."

"There is no historical precedent for two Atlantic hurricanes of at least category 4 strength hitting the same location just two weeks apart. That this may occur in November, when major hurricanes are rare, is particularly extraordinary." #Iota

UPDATE from the Instituto Biblico shelter in San Pedro Sula, Honduras where World Central Kitchen is serving 550 people working with amazing local leaders like Karen! We are also now bringing clean water & medicine as diarrhea is a problem in shelters...We always have to adapt to needs!

Today we installed a solar-powered (with battery backup!) water filtration system at the Guadelupano shelter in La Lima, Honduras. There is no running water or electricity here after the two hurricanes, so the community can now fill up 5 gallon bottles & reduce plastic waste!
