Bluelined goatfish can change colour & pattern in seconds. My first PhD paper (yay) shows that goatfish can perceive these rapid changes, which may provide advantages in communication #neuroscience Jane Williamson @MQBiology Science and Engineering @ MQU Check it out: karger.com/Article/FullTe…

It's fitting that on #WomeninScienceDay we nailed a morning of productive science with an all girl team. Such an outstanding bunch of scientists to work with #WomenInSTEM Science and Engineering @ MQU lauraryansci @millennial_sci

Leaving Sydney for Norfolk Island for 3 weeks of collaborative #Science A rather messy field house to support many projects from microbiome to shark movement and diet. Thanks to the #NorfolkIsland community for all their support!

Another successful field trip to Norfolk Island: 29 tiger sharks (mean ~4 m TL) caught with muscle, blood & microbiome collected, 15 sat & 10 acoustic tags deployed, 18 dusky/Galapagos sharks caught and sampled, acoustic receivers around the island downloaded and re-deployed

This weekend the post-docs were tasked with getting samples for our neurobiology lab. lauraryansci and I would suggest that they had the A-team on the job #science #research Science and Engineering @ MQU

COOL NEW PAPER led by lauraryansci uses cam tags to understand how tiger sharks visually experience interactions with sea turtles. Our results suggest sharks detect prey that produce greater motion cues, while reduced movements may camouflage turtles. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Our new paper looking at tiger shark interactions with turtles through the eyes of the shark. Staying still helps keep turtles camouflaged. Unique combo of neuro and animal borne tags thanks to Sammy Andrzejaczek. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Hugely excited that Living Seawalls will be a key component in this multi-faceted program reviving Sydney Harbour marine life and the important socio-economic values that healthy marine ecosystems sustain.

Our lab is on the Gold Coast for 3 weeks. We're predominately studying electroreception in #sharks. We've had three super early starts and we're all still smiling. What a team Macquarie University School of Natural Sciences

🩸🦈SHARKS CAN SMELL A DROP OF BLOOD FROM A MILE AWAY! Bet you've heard this a million times, but do you know how scientists figure out what sharks can smell and why it is critical to know? If curious, check out my talk at Sharks International at 08:45 UTC in less than 24 hours!

Meet the head of our lab, Professor Nathan Hart, aka ‘The Boss’. Nathan is a world leader in comparative sensory biology. He is currently finding new ways to protect people from #shark bites & learning how brain hemispheres become specialised for different behaviours Macquarie University School of Natural Sciences
