Excited to announce that I will be chairing the next #Pseudomonas #conference in beautiful #Copenhagen 🇩🇰 I look forward to work w/the global Pseudomonas research community to keep the high scientific level of this meeting series—that started in 1986, organized by Kenneth Timmis!

A fantastic and inspiring seminar today: "Environmental bacteria as authentic—not metaphorical—Cell Factories" by Víctor de Lorenzo - more people than seats in the auditorium :)

I assessed 7 Bachelor´s theses today (3 as external examiner, 4 as supervisor). What did I see? A lot of commitment & engagement in finding/engineering/testing microbial solutions as alternatives to conventional chemistry. The future is looking bright.

A new example of parasites that change host behaviors? Extensive control of bacterial behaviors by plasmids. Zombie-ants (fungal infection), fear-negating effects of Toxoplasma in rats, and now….bacteria with eating and movement disorders caused by plasmid infections....

The LorMe conference series on soil health moves one with a very special guest, professor Medema from Wageningen University. The conference series aims to share the most cutting edge insights around soil health and is free to attend for everyone, please RT!

How do soil microbiomes respond to antibiotics from biocontrol strains? Here, we find biotransformation of a cyclic lipopeptide as one of the community-level resistance mechanisms in a soil bacteria SynCom. Does the “fate” of secondary metabolites add to biocontrol variation?

How do the different O-antigen structures (serotypes) of P. aeruginosa contribute to the biology of this pathogen? Using isogenic strains systematically engineered to express different serotypes, Mikkel Anbo gave the answer(s) yesterday at his PhD defence. Congrats, Mikkel!

#Taxonomy doesn't have to be taxing. Were you outraged when the Proteobacteria became the Pseudomonadota? Are you a clinical microbiologist getting vexed about nomenclature? Come to our Microbiology Society focussed meeting and make yourself heard! microbiologysociety.org/event/society-…

Important to discuss how the future of microbiology looks like and how to shape this future. From your top-right photo it appears that you also/indeed focus on the issue of diversity and gender bias....

Time for a coat change? We examined how serotype switching from O-antigen O4 to O12 alters pathogenicity traits in P. aeruginosa high-risk clone ST111. Effects on motility, adhesion and virulence may help to explain the global “success” of ST111 O12 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
