On Monday 17th March 2025, Sierra Leone's delegation to the Commission on the Status of Women Conference, convened in New York to deliberate on the topic "Localizing Implementation of UNSCR 1325 in West Africa and the Sahel - The case of Sierra Leone."

In attendance was the Vice President of L.A.W.Y.E.R.S. who doubles as the Chairperson Women, Peace and Security Focused Coalition in Sierra Leone. #UNSCR1325

UNSCR 1325 which is an abbreviation for United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, is a resolution that was adopted in 2000 that emphasizes on the importance of women's participation in peace and security processes as well as address the impact of armed conflict on women

The discussions focused on key points including: 1. Limited resources and funding. 2. Cultural barriers and societal norms that hinder women's participation. 3. The need for stronger political will and commitment from local governments. #CSW69

In order to address the setbacks, the following were highlighted: -The need to increase funding for gender equality initiatives -Strengthening partnerships among stakeholders -Continuous promotion of awareness and education on women's rights and roles in peace and security
