It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our former Head of Delegation, Raffaella Iodice. She was a true friend of Afghanistan, a champion of women & girls, and a beloved colleague to many. Our delegation is in deep shock & mourning May her memory be a blessing

Deeply saddened by the passing of Raffaella Iodice, dear colleague to so many, an exceptional diplomat, extraordinary human being. She brought support and hope to women and children in Afghanistan, where she did extraordinary work, like all she undertook. Her memory will live on.

My last message as SG of the European External Action Service - EEAS 🇪🇺 is to express all my sadness for the loss of Raffaella Iodice. Raffaella has been an amazing colleague that fought all her life for the respect and the dignity of all persons. Her work in Afghanistan has been invaluable. 1/2

I just spoke with my colleagues in EU in Ukraine in Kyiv, after our building was damaged by a Russian strike. Your resolve to keep supporting Ukraine gives us strength. No diplomatic mission should ever be a target. In response, we are summoning the Russian envoy in Brussels.

Timely and highly constructive exchange with the EEAS Staff Committee today. We discussed the key political challenges following yesterday’s EUCO, including the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine and their impact on Europe’s economy.
