BBC Radio 4 PM Andrew Bowie This is how fascism spreads. Tell lies, repeat them over and over, make people fearful of something that doesn't exist, and then claim that you are the only way of preventing these non-existent horrors. Sickening that politicians should behave like this.

The story of how Alphonse lost his feet after he was deported from #Tunisia to #Algeria is truly shocking. Yet European politicians seem to have no pity for #African #migrants. More ⁦Channel 4 News⁩ tonight. With ⁦Rob Hodge⁩ ⁦Soren Munk

This is the heartbreaking story of Alphonse, a Cameroonian migrant who'd made his way to Algeria, where he says he was beaten by border guards and sent to hospital - where he woke up and he says they'd cut off his feet.

There is no hurricane of immigrants, as Home Secretary Suella Braverman claims. There is a hurricane of lies emanating from the Conservative Party conference aimed at scaring voters: Meat Tax British culture “diluted” Labour councils controlling shoppers Blanket 20mph limits

Dear Rt Hon Michelle Donelan - As Science Minister, I think you owe the UK science community an apology for this nasty propaganda which undermines the community you are charged with representing. RT if you agree...

It’s not everyday that you can claim to have met & stayed (in prison) with a The Nobel Prize winner, but it has now happened, & she SO deserves this recognition for her decades-long activism. Narges Mohammadi was a mother to all of us in prison AND to those fighting for freedom.

#NobelPeacePrize2023 couldn’t have been awarded to anyone worthier than #FreeNarges Mohammadi for her brave & continuous fight for #Iranianwomen Heartfelt congratulations 👏🏼👏🏼 #WomanLifeFreedom

The flare-up of conflict in the Middle East is so tragic. It's very heartbreaking to see innocent civilians lose their lives and loved ones on both sides. Having lived through war, I can tell that civilians will be urging for an urgent ceasefire, not for more bloodshed. Let's

Powerful from Jan Egeland - cutting off food, electricity & fuel from 2.4m people c. half under 15yrs old is unconscionable. UK has rightly condemned Hamas targeting civilians - now it should call out Israeli state for ramping up collective punishment, & increase humanitarian aid

Thankful today for Claudia Goldin Claudia Goldin, and hoping that her Nobel Prize for Economics will prompt employers to take more radical action in future to close the gender pay gap, especially by supporting women who take time out to be primary carers for their children. 🙏

Truly staggering profits being made by private providers out of the Tories punishing asylum system. No wonder government are determined to keep folk trapped without status & workrights - no profit for their donors in efficient systems or paid advisory roles for MPs…

My friend Daniel Levy used to be an advisor to the Israeli prime minister Ehud Barak. In an interview with the BBC, he calls out the media’s parroting of official claims and credulity in accepting the rationalisations for collective punishment.

This is a significant part of the #AcademicWorkload problem. Academic lives are no longer the ones senior managers experienced, and the pace/complexity of modern academic labour demands us to be in perfect form every hour of every day.

"We are extremely worried by Israeli military orders to evacuate 1 million people out of northern #Gaza in 24 hours which will have enormous consequences for children. We call for this to be urgently rescinded and an immediate pause for humanitarian access" - Inger Ashing, CEO.

Not enough kindness in this virtual place any more. I have used it mainly to advocate for human rights around the world, esp. in Iran. But the platform is no longer fit for purpose, aggression has risen, and the scales have tipped in the costs-benefits analysis. So long folks!
