Well done Riccardo Pianezza :) our novel tool for finding recent TE invasions without repeat library

Great work by PopGen Vienna PhD student Riccardo Pianezza and MS student Anna Haider in the Robert Kofler lab published in Genome Biology: a tool to detect recent TE invasions without a repeat library #evolution #popgen

A phage gene encoding a DNase I homolog was horizontally transferred to a Drosophila ananassae ancestor 21 mya and is used against parasitoids. Rebecca Tarnopol put it into D. melanogaster and expressed in fat body. It moved humorally to wasp serosa just as in Dmel! tinyurl.com/2k9ypyxr

Super proud - our new work about two troublesome TEs spreading into several Droso species in just a few decades; it was so much fun to work with the amazing Riccardo Pianezza Almorò Dr. Sarah Signor rdcu.be/d5G1M

Our work is finally out! Two TEs that triggered a cascade of invasion after introduction to cosmopolitan species of Drosophila. Almorò Riccardo Pianezza Robert Kofler are such a pleasure to work with. nature.com/articles/s4146…

Experimental evolution reveals dynamics of horizontal transfer of a transposable element between D. melanogaster and D. simulans. In Mobile DNA led by Filip Wierzbicki (alum of our PhD program) and current student Riccardo Pianezza from the Kofler lab PopGen Vienna
