What's happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable. A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today. Six of our UNRWA colleagues are among those killed. These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now.

Despite extremely difficult circumstances, more than 560,000 children in Gaza have been vaccinated against polio during the first round of our emergency campaign. My gratitude to health workers, partners & all involved to ensure we reached 90% vaccination coverage.

More than 1 million people have been affected by floods in Nigeria. Borno State, which I visited two years ago, has been the hardest hit. The United Nations is providing meals, shelter, health services & more emergency assistance, and we’ll continue to support those in need.

Today, peace is under threat. But each of us can nurture the conditions needed for a peaceful world to flourish. Ringing the Peace Bell at United Nations HQ is a tradition to commemorate #PeaceDay. May the call for peace we make here ring out around the world.
