Thanks for the expired covid test University of British Columbia UBC GSS UBC Media Relations UBC Covid Tracker
Julia Adelsheim University of British Columbia UBC GSS UBC Media Relations I believe Health Canada extended the expiration date on a lot of rapid tests, so they should still be good to use. If there’s a different expiration date on the external packaging, that should be the one to go by!
From today’s The New York Times . Sometimes, the truth hides in plain sight.
Thanks to Richard Benyon who stopped by UBC Oceans (also found at ubcoceans.bsky.social) yesterday and met with faculty and students from David Rosen, UBC Marine Mammal Research Unit, #SEARUN, Pelagic Ecosystems Lab & Project Seahorse. Wonderful to make connections between #UBC and #UK.

It is #freshwater #jellyfish season and with the heat for weeks, the #invasive #Craspedacusta will show up in ponds and lakes across BC soon. If you see any, please send a message to Florian Lüskow. Photo: Håkon Sönderholm.
It was so fun to have you in class Rashid Sumaila. You are such an inspiration and amazing energy to be around!
Over 1/2 of the way through the #OceanLeaders course UBC Oceans (also found at ubcoceans.bsky.social)! The students are strengthening their research, data analysis, #SciComm, + presentation skills. Project based learning is new to most them, and they are doing great work. I'm so grateful to work with Julia Adelsheim
Last week they heard from Drs Amanda Vincent and Chris Harley, both of whom were super inspiring and made the students feel encouraged and excited about marine science. One of the biggest strengths of this course is just how many people are contributing.
Amanda Vincent They also got to see Adam hicks successfully defend his Masters thesis, which was a really cool learning experience for them. Most of them are really interested in pursuing grad studies after they graduate!
First time #Craspedacusta, the #invasive #freshwater #jellyfish, seen in #CheakamusLake near #Whistler. If you see these inch-sized jellyfish across #BritishColumbia, say something and write to Florian Lüskow
The amount of energy required to ‘power’ an aquarium #otter is only 5-15% more than for other marine mammals. Despite different lifestyles the energy intake of aquarium otters was only slightly lower than that of wilds. David Rosen David Rosen oceans.ubc.ca/2023/08/18/hun… UBC Science
It's #SeaOtterAwarenessWeek! Learn about recent #UBCOceans research about these furry marine mammals, who seem to have bottomless stomachs. What does this mean for the #ecosystem around them? oceans.ubc.ca/2023/08/18/hun… David Rosen Julia Adelsheim
