A lazy Saturday & I’m absolutely engrossed by Journal Safar, the latest delivery from Stack Magazines - a bilingual indie mag from Beirut full of essays, interviews & insight ‘trying to shift the conversation on design & visual culture from its fixation in the global North.’

Beirut-based design team Maya Moumne and Hatem Imam founded Journal Safar in 2014 with the intention of highlighting cultural production and exchange in Lebanon and the region. Issue V verrrry good 👏🏼

This month's Stack Magazines offering from Journal Safar - a bilingual Arabic & English design focussed journal from Beirut. I remember when, here, the name 'Beirut' was just a lazy cipher for conflict and disorder.… instagram.com/p/CAkcEvVnaeA/…

Now up, it's Maya Moumne of Journal Safar. Below, the #NOSTALGIA issue, the issue where people started: "taking notice." Interestingly, once the team "shifted from an experimental [cover] to one that adopts more conventional modes of designing covers for mags" – Maya Moumne 🟥🟦

Continuing, Maya Moumne discusses the impact of the #Beirut explosion earlier this year: the damage it caused and is still causing to minority communities, the protests which followed, and how Journal Safar will continue to respond in print... 🟥🟦 #magCultureLive2020
